Giver of Good Gifts

——— Part Two to my last blog: Father of Lights ———

I’ve been writing and re-writing this blog for 5 weeks now as God has taught me through it.  During that time, He’s really impressed it on my heart to remember dreams I’ve had since I was a little girl, and to not just dream about them, but to actually ask Him for them.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” – Matthew 7:7-11

It’s so simple!

When we know that God is the Giver of Good Gifts, why would we not ask Him for the things He actually put in our heart to desire?

I can give you two reasons.

Fear and disappointment.

More like, the fear of being disappointed.

If you find yourself in that place right now, unable to admit that you have expectations, dreams, and desires because you’re afraid of facing possible disappointment, delay, or a change of direction, God is about to break that off of you right now.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment.” – 1 John 4:18

When you ask God for things, even if you do experience delays or disappointment, when you cling to Him in them, it will:

  1. Convict and convince you of what it is you really want and should be praying for or doing instead.
  2. Solidify your hope, not in your dreams, but in Him as the loving, faithful, Author of your story Who wants to give you better.

God is so GOOD in that:

He actually created you to desire good gifts that He wants to give you.

And He is so FAITHFUL in that:

What He started, HE WILL FINISH.

True faith means you trust in God’s character and nature so much that you’re willing to put the deepest parts of your heart out on a limb again in order to believe and actually ASK FOR THE PROMISES HE PLACED IN YOUR HEART TO WANT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

36 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.

37 For, ‘In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.’

38 And,

‘But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.’

39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” – Hebrews 10:35-39

He wants you to ask and believe because it keeps the conversation going and brings glory to Him.  Not acknowledging what it is you are actually asking the Lord for is also a form of devaluing yourself, and invalidating what you feel, and…

God doesn’t devalue you or invalidate what you feel.

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

The deepest desires of your heart WHEN SURRENDERED are actually His will for your life (check out Surrender the Seeds)!  Even if He changes your original desires as you delight in Him above them, He will always replace them with better, so THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING TO FEAR.

Why not call to mind everything you’ve ever desired, ask, and posture your heart to receive…

…especially if you believe He’s the Giver of every good giftand your Father?

“Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now, ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.” – John 16:24

He gave you a spirit of power, love, and a SOUND MIND so you can think things through and know what it is you’re asking for.  Don’t let fear and disappointment steal from you the joy of asking and receiving and growing your relationship with your Father.

“Jesus said to her, Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?” – John 11:40

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23

“Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17

“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is the Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” – Hebrews 11:6

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
